The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela strongly condemns and rejects the arbitrary and extraterritorial actions by the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), of the Department of the Treasury of the United States of America (USA) against the Executive Vice-President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Tareck El Aissami.
These actions, which seek to validate the vulgar and inadmissible existence of an imperial right, vesting with special police powers US government agencies, lack the minimum international legality and flagrantly violate Public International Law, international institutions and the fundamental principles that govern the community of nations, such as respect for sovereign equality and the principle of immunity of States, posing a serious affectation and attack against our country.
These actions also represent a slander against a very high authority of the State and undoubtedly constitutes a false positive against a decent and honourable Venezuelan, such accusations against him have no grounds in reality, make up a grotesque lie which the imperial country usually uses to attack, and are part of an international framework to undermine a high investiture and to hinder the exercise of his duties.
This US agency, which aims to govern beyond its territorial scope, acts with impunity hand-in-hand with the DEA, which is widely known for its blatant contribution to drug production and trafficking with the most notorious cartels of Colombian and world drug trafficking. Since the breakdown of relations with the DEA in 2005, Venezuela has managed to seize an annual average of 55.7 tons of drugs, thus increasing its efficiency by 60 per cent, which is why the United Nations (UN) has recognised us as one of the six countries of greatest seizure of narcotic drugs in the world, and free of illicit crops in the national territory. Venezuela is one of the few countries on the continent to enact a law for the interception, disablement, immobilization and deterrence of aircraft serving international drug trafficking, affecting more than 100 aircrafts.
The Executive Vice President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela is a prominent criminologist, renowned for his outstanding leadership on the citizen security agency during the presidency of Commander Hugo Chavez, for his strong fight against drug trafficking and the Colombian paramilitarism, which brought into Justice more than 102 drug lords and handed over 21 drug traffickers sought for extradition by the US.
These international illicit actions, committed by the US executive agencies, are of unprecedented nature in our bilateral relations. The Chargé d’Affaires of the US Embassy to Venezuela, who has devoted his administration to subvert the legal and constitutional order of our country, tries to revitalize the weak and extinct extremist Venezuelan opposition to carry out a political coup against the democratic institutions of Venezuela.
Through this very serious aggression, they intend to violate the sovereign sphere of the Venezuelan State, and violate the right to honour, reputation, dignity and human rights of the Vice-President Tareck El Aissami. It is regrettable and highly dangerous that the US bureaucracy along with violent and extreme factors of the Venezuelan opposition conduct the relations of the new administration to perpetuate the historical mistakes made by former President Barack Hussein Obama against Venezuela.
We are people who love peace, respectful of the principles of self-determination and sovereignty, and also abide by international law and order. With this same determination we reaffirm that we have not or will not tolerate any aggression against our land, against our right to be free or against any brother born in this land of worthy men and women and heirs of the glory of Simon Bolivar and Hugo Chavez.
