On 15 April 2022 progressive people the world over celebrated the 110th anniversary of the birth of Korea’s founding father, the great revolutionary leader, Comrade Kim Il Sung.
Comrade Kim Il Sung led the Korean people in the long and arduous struggle for emancipation from imperialist oppression and feudal backwardness, throughout such severe challenges as the Japanese occupation of his country, to the Fatherland Liberation War against the combined forces of imperialism led by the United States.
Inspired by the Great Socialist October Revolution led by Comrade Lenin, and emphasising the need for a thorough understanding of Marxism-Leninism in order to be able to chart the correct path at all times, he led the Korean people to victory against the most enormous odds.
Under the banner and guidance of that revolution, in his early teens, the young Kim Il Sung joined his father and other family members in guiding the struggle for Korean independence onto a new and better path, one led by the working class, in strategic alliance with the poor peasantry, and guided by the science of Marxism-Leninism.
In the 1920s and 1930s, Comrade Kim Il Sung defined the general line of the Korean revolution, built party organisations, united front bodies, and organised and waged a powerful armed struggle against Japanese imperialism.
In the 1940s, this struggle merged with the antifascist struggle of the peoples of the world, led by the Soviet Union, and helped usher in the birth of a new democratic Korea.
However, with the onset of the cold war, US imperialism occupied the southern part of Korea and in 1950 unleashed a ferocious war, during which the infant Democratic People’s Republic of Korea stood at the crossroads of life and death.
After a titanic struggle, in which four million Koreans lost their lives and the country was laid waste, the Korean people and their Chinese allies forced the USA to sign an armistice agreement in 1953. The country lay in ruins, from which the imperialists claimed it would take a thousand years to rise again. Yet, by the dawn of the 1960s, the northern part of Korea had emerged as a socialist industrial power, a tribute to socialist planning, and the first of its kind in Asia.
In the 1960s, Kim Il Sung’s Korea was a beacon supporting the anti-imperialist struggles of the peoples of Africa, Asia and Latin America; and in the 1970s and 1980s she rendered enormous support to those countries in their struggle to build new and independent societies.
When Khrushchevite revisionism was rending apart the international communist movement, Comrade Kim Il Sung, through the juche idea, taught the Korean people to be independent in pursuing the correct path, rather than relying on outsiders who were distorting the teachings of Marxism-Leninism in order to restore capitalism and capitulate to imperialist bullying
As the 1990s dawned, through to his sudden death in 1994, Comrade Kim Il Sung picked up the banner of socialism, that had finally been thrown into the mud by the modern revisionists, and worked tirelessly, in spite of old age and the many pressing problems of his own country, to rebuild the international communist movement.
In safeguarding their socialist society as the apple of their eye despite the most vicious imperialist measures taken to destroy the Korean economy through sanctions and constant threats of further military aggression, and to keep the country divided contrary to the earnest desires of the majority of its people, the Korean people have upheld the truth of Marxism-Leninism by unleashing the full spirit, creativity and potential of millions of working people able to solve all problems.
Today we are in the midst of a turning point in world history. Crazed by an ongoing crisis of overproduction combined with inability to expand any further, imperialism is now embarking on military adventures that are plunging the masses of the world into a worse level of poverty than that which has been torturing them for quite some time.
Even in imperialist countries such as Britain and the USA, the masses are facing a sudden abrupt and permanent fall in their living standards, which will force them into rebellion against the capitalist economic system that can no longer bring progress but only devastation and ruin.
At such a time, the leadership of such great persons as Comrade Kim Il Sung and the communist leadership organisations that he helped to organise is critical for the emancipation of the people of the world.
We are sure that such persons and organisations will arise and will be greatly helped by studying the experience of Comrade Kim Il Sung as set out in his comprehensive revolutionary works.
